Overview
Follow the blue blazes that mark this route along Rock Creek and Beach Drive. Revel in the tranquility of this super convenient escape from the urban maelstrom.
Description
This wonderful trail runs along Rock Creek from the Maryland border to the confluence of Piney Branch and Rock Creek. The entire length is just about 5.5 miles one way, but but don't be fooled by the word "Valley" in its name. The trail has plenty of elevation change as it twists and turns on the banks of the river. Complete the whole route, or tackle it in sections, you won't be disappointed.
Contrary to the
Western Ridge Trail, the
Valley Trail path is a bit more rugged. Watch your footing for rocks, roots and narrow passages. While you'll find fewer runners along the Valley trail, this is probably the most popular trail in the park overall, and a great place to see wildlife like deer and black snakes.
