Description
Old Out Road starts in an open clearing at the junction with the
Stewart Trail. Although it was originally an old ranching road, some upper parts of the Old Out Road have been converted to singletrack path, and other parts are reverting naturally to wide, grass-covered swaths. You may still spot some bits of pavement showing through the dirt in places.
Initially, the trail is nearly flat as it contours around hillsides and along wide ridges. The lush forest cover gradually gives way to coastal scrub as you descend and the views improve. Look for the Farallon Islands far in the distance. The terrain steepens around the last few turns down to the junction with the
Coast Trail - South. Note: bikes are not allowed on the Old Out road.
