Overview
One of the most competitive trail half marathons in the country, this course has both rail trail flat sections and steep singletrack climbs.
Description
Start in the middle of the ball field and run towards the lake, merging onto the
Lake Padden Loop. Follow the crushed limestone flat trail along the lake for just over 1.25 miles and take a right onto Lake
Padden Gorge Trail. Follow the trail down, staying right at the first intersection and then taking a left at the next intersection. This is the start of a small loop. At the next intersection take a right and retrace your steps back to the lake.
Take right at the lake and cross the bridge, watch for a trail on your right soon after the bridge. Turn right onto the Lake Padden Horse Trails and head up a steep climb. At the top it'll flatten turning left. Watch for a singletrack trail to your right off the main trail (the main trail will simply loop around back to your starting point along the lake). Turn right on the singletrack and head down and then up.
At the next intersection stay right (left will take you back to the
Lake Padden Loop), head up the long muddy hill and back down. Towards the bottom of the hill take a right at the only intersection (staying left will take you back to the
Lake Padden Loop). Continue down a steep little hill and stay right. The trail will now wind up a hill, back down and then start a big climb.
Stay right at the
Powerline Trail and continue climbing. At the next intersection, take a right and the trail will climb to the top before turning to the left and flattening out. At the next intersection, stay left and start a downhill section. Take a right a the next intersection, cross the power line and continue heading down. After crossing a small bridge the trail will merge onto the
Lake Padden Loop just beside the ball field where you started.
Repeat the loop and the next time you approach the start area, head into the ball field through the break in the fence and finish just beside the first pavilion.
