Like most trails in the area there are plenty of rocky areas most of which are at the beginning but starts to clear our when you get closer to the end. Of course there plenty of roots along the route that like to pop up and snag toes. Trust me I have the bruises to prove it.

Fanning Trail starts at the Southeast Church of the Nazarene and Connects to the Scout Trail. It is a short but very aggressive trail with steep elevations from the start and many switchbacks. There are a lot of rocky areas and routes that require some good technical running skills.

The most recent trail map from the Land Trust shows Fanning ending just after the intersection with Scout Trail but it is actually marked all the way to Cecil Ashburn Drive.

Fanning can also be accessed from Walsingham Road via the Walsingham connector trail and from Cecil Ashburn Drive directly across from the Land Trust parking lot.
