There are actually two trailheads off of Gabbiano Lane if parking is tight at the main area.
Runner Notes
This trail is a local favorite and can get crowded with day hikers. Pair this with the
Aviara Oaks Loop by following Batiquitos Drive for a 6.5-mile lollipop loop.
Description
This is a well-maintained trail that makes for a nice, quick out and back. The trail is often frequented by local day runners. The surface is smooth, flat, hard packed dirt. Mileage provided is for a round-trip out and back run. More information on the area can be found by clicking

Trailhead: In Carlsbad, exit the I-5 on Poinsettia and head east for 0.3 miles. Take the second right onto Batiquitos Dr. In 0.5 miles, take then the first right onto Gabbiano Ln. and follow for 0.3 miles until it dead ends at the parking area. OR stay on Batiquitos and keep your eyes open for the other parking sites on the right-hand side. These parking areas are easy to miss, but are generally more open than then main trailhead.
Flora & Fauna
This trail present numerous examples of regional coastal plants. There are numerous markers along the trail.
