Runner Notes

There are many connectors from this trail, so pay attention at the junctions. All are very well marked with large maps. This trail stays above 900 feet, so if you go down any sudden declines you've probably taken a wrong turn along the way.

Description

From the north connector, head to the north along a trail that gently inclines and sweeps around to the west. You'll be in the middle of wildflowers and grasses, so take some deep breaths.

The trail passes various connectors and alternate routes. For a bit of a workout and a change of scenery consider taking the Trout Brook Loop. Staying on the trail, though, you'll pass along the edge of the prairie down until you get to some pretty good views of Afton Alps. From there head east and then back north for the home stretch.

Flora & Fauna

All through the summer various prairie wildflowers are in bloom among the tall grasses. The milkweed draws in my types of butterflies, but especially monarchs. Expect to see blue jays and other smaller songbirds darting in and out of the grass as they feast on bugs.
