Intersections are generally well signed, but bringing a map/phone/gps can be useful in this maze-like trail network.
Description
From the main Devils Canyon parking lot, head out on the gravel road. Take a right at the first intersection and then take a left at the next junction to get onto trail D4.
Once you are in the canyon, the easiest way to stay on trail or complete the biggest loop is to go right at every intersection. About .3 miles along the D4 trail you reach
D4 Shortcut #1, which is your first option to turn around. Next, around .8 miles along the D4 trail you reach
D4 Shortcut #2, which is the last option to cut this trail short.
The trail continues to follow the bottom of the beautiful cliff bands and loops back around passing the two shortcut trails again. Stay to the right past the two shortcuts and cover some great rolling terrain back to D1 after about 2 miles.
Here you can follow
D1 - Devils Canyon back to your car, or dogleg east and then south on D1 to connect back to D4 as it makes its way down to the dry creek bed of the Devils Canyon Loop - D3. Here D4 ends and you can either go back the way you came, take Devils Canyon Loop - D3 back to the car or continue exploring the network of desert trails to your heart's content.
