Runner Notes
Steep and somewhat loose, this would be a challenge for most.
Description
This trail begins at the Gulpha Gorge trailhead, near the intersection of N. Mountain Road with and Hot Springs Mountain Drive. Signs will point the way, and give visitors distances of the various trails in the area.
From the trailhead, this trail begins a steep descent. This trail is much more dramatic than the others in the area, and the route drops away steeply. Visitors will enjoy breathtaking views of the Gulpha Gorge while heading down this trail. There are water bars and other technical features that prevent erosion, and caution is recommended for all visitors.
Once visitors reach the bottom of the trail, they will enjoy the most dramatic of the views to be had. The trail dead ends at an intersection with the
Dead Chief Trail. From there, it is a strenuous climb back up to the trailhead!
It is also possible to access this trail from the Gulpha Gorge Campground, though visitors will have to cross a creek to access the trail.
Flora & Fauna
Visitors will enjoy the shade of both coniferous pines and hardwoods.
