May be dangerous to be on if there is a rain storm in the mountains, the trail leads through a wash and will flash flood.

Runner Notes

Rocks and boulders would make trail running difficult.

Description

This is a great trail if you want a little bit of a challenge but do not have much time. The trailhead starts with Pine Springs trailhead and is easy to follow for the first mile. During this time, you'll see scars from a fire from 1993 and recovery with trees, flowers and wildlife.

At the end of the first mile, there will be a sign indicating that the trail will be following the wash with boulder scrambles and following cairns. If you stay in the wash, you'll be on the trail. At this point it is another mile to Devil's Hall. Just before the hall you'll have to scramble a pour off called "Hikers Staircase" at Devil's gate; watch out for the pools of water at the top. After getting to the top of the wash, you can then see Devil's Hall, an impressive slot canyon. This is a great place to sit awhile and enjoy the bird songs and wind echoing in the slot canyon and enjoy a little picnic.

Once you've had your fill, simply retrace your steps and return the way that you came.

Flora & Fauna

Junipers, Texas Madrone, choysia and lots of oaks, yuccas and sotols.
