This is a very steep trail, and it is a bit of a challenge. Luckily, incredible views ensure that it does pay off in the end. The trail winds through a spruce and hemlock forest into the sub-alpine and alpine zones.

Once you have broken through the trees you'll have panoramic views of Resurrection Bay and Seward. From here on up the trail winds back and forth a little bit and is easy to lose the trail. Make sure that you bring a map or other navigation devices!

From the viewpoint, you can continue northeast along the ridge to gain the summit of Mt. Alice. This is a lesser traveled rout and proper preparations/caution should be used.

As you gain the ridge, the trail becomes very rocky. If you left early enough in the morning you'll be able to make it to the top and back while taking your time. Be sure to bring a camera, plenty of water, and bear spray.

You may see many species of birds, mountain goats, moose, and bear on the journey, so be aware of your surroundings. Bring bear spray!
