Overview
An easy trail along Dodd Creek that leads up to the cliffs and the falls. Along the way, visitors will see plenty of rhododendron and old growth deciduous forest. Keep your eyes and ears out for some small falls and cascades along the creek.
Runner Notes
Quite a few roots on the trail.
Description
Park at the newly redone parking area at the trailhead. The trail is well marked, so you'll have no problem getting started.
Shortly after your journey begins, you'll see a well-maintained campsite next to a great swimming hole. The trail crosses small feeder streams into Dodd Creek several times, so be prepared for spots of mud and water at times. The forest is primarily hardwood, with a few small evergreens scattered throughout. At 2 miles in, you'll begin to hear the falls, and the noise will increase until a small climb puts you at the foot of the cliffs and the cascades.
A small trail to the left of the falls takes you to the top of the cliff if you want a challenge at the mid-point. From the falls, your return journey will bring you back along the same path the brought you to the cliffs.
History & Background
In the Raven Cliffs Wilderness Area, which extends to
Springer Mountain (the starting point of the AT).
