Overview

A great loop with a challenging climb and a rewarding view.

Runner Notes

There will be some cyclist traffic, so if you're moving at speed, keep an eye out for other trail users.

Description

To access the trail, enter the park, take the first left, and park in the 2nd lot. The trailhead is located right out of the north end of this lot.

In the afternoons, evenings, and early mornings there are deer, coyote and the occasional snake around this trail. The route is pretty level until you reach the base of the mountain, which is about located about 3/4 mile in.

Once you reach the bottom of the hill, it's up, up, up. You'll get all of your climbing in over the course of the next 3/4 of a mile. Once you make it through the switchbacks, there's a nice view at the top.

Coming down the backside of the peak features nice singletrack. There's a nice spur that takes visitors up a short hill by the stables, but then it's a slight downhill or relatively flat back to the car. If you're moving consistently, you can tackle this trail and still have time for some sightseeing at the top.

There are lots of trails that branch off from this main trail, and you can turn this one in to 15 miles on the weekend if you want. This route might be best for a mid-week evening though, as it gets crowded on the weekends.

Flora & Fauna

Coyote, deer, squirrels, and occasional snakes have all been spotted in the area. There is also some good tree cover on the spur trails.
