Overview

This route into the gorge is steep and remote. Conley Cove Trail offers a rewarding run beneath the tall canopies of many large trees. The trail is rugged. Expect obstacles such as downed trees, possibly too large to maneuver a heavy dog over.

Need to Know

4WD or AWD (with clearance) will be helpful for accessing this trailhead. The road has a couple of steep sections which have been eroded.

Description

From the parking area, this run follows the Rock Jock Trail before splitting to the left as the Conley Cove Trail.

Shortly after the split, Conley Cove passes by a small cave (overhang). This portion of the trail is a shallow stream for most of the year. The trail continues its descent into the gorge with a beautiful canopy overhead. There are new discoveries around every switchback. The trail eventually arrives at the Linville River as it meets with the Linville Gorge Trail.

Be sure to pack a lunch! Allow plenty of time to enjoy the run back to your car.
