Description
Inspiration Trail is a short interpretive trail in the Reedy Creek section of the park. The trailhead is along
Company Mill Trail, just down the first hill past the picnic shelters. Inspiration Trail splits to the left and makes a short loop. Benches are provided along the trail to rest and enjoy the natural scenery. Tree identification signs help visitors learn about the different species of trees growing in a Piedmont forest.
The trail initially follows a small intermittent stream then curves around to higher ground on the steep slopes above Crabtree Creek. These south-facing slopes have a cooler climate than the surrounding areas and support the growth of more mountainous flora such as mountain laurel. The unique climate and ecology of this area has been recognized as Crabtree Shrub Slopes Natural Area. In about a quarter-mile, the trail loops back to the beginning. Turn left to continue on
Company Mill Trail for a longer trip or turn right to head back to the picnic area.
Flora & Fauna
Mountain laurel bloom along south-facing slopes of Crabtree Creek. The shrubs bloom in early May and are quite beautiful.
