Runner Notes

Be careful on the steps. It's very easy to take one wrong step and trip, so don't hesitate to take your time going up or down.

Description

From the Pine Hollow parking lot, cross the top of the hill to find the trailhead, just inside the woods (look for a picnic table and trail sign). You can then go right or left to follow this incredible loop. There is a shortcut option available.

This trail boasts quite a few large, steep hills and uneven steps, making it a good challenge for trail runners and hikers alike. it is not suited to small children or folks with mobility issues (head to Lake Trail!). You'll also pass through some lower areas that are thick with lush foliage and, in the spring, tons of skunk cabbage.

Along the southern stretch of the trail, keep your eyes open for White Oak Spring, a naturally occurring spring at the base of a white oak tree. You'll also run along a few watery areas, so be prepared to get wet.

Flora & Fauna

You'll see lots of towering trees along here and lots of skunk cabbage in the spring. Trees along the trail include some excellent examples of White Oaks and a gorgeous Hemlock Grove. The herbaceous layer contains Christmas and Sensitive Ferns. Smartweed, Wingstem and Snake Root bloom in mid August and early September along the trail.

Amazing Trail! A more technical trail for a beginner like me, but the scenery makes the suffering a little easier. 2.8mi — 0h 57m
