Description
This trail is most commonly accessed from the westside trailhead located off of Orcutt Hill Road. Go through the gate and stay right to get to the trail. Continue through some oaks, up a steeper section of trail, then turn left when it clears.
You'll follow the trail up another steep section, but the trail will turn into an old asphalt road for a short bit. Follow the asphalt through eucalyptus trees, then go right at the post/trail marker. Continue on the doubletrack along a moderate but long hill to the top post/trail marker and make a left. The water tower will be on the right with the high point and bench ahead.
From the bench, head downhill to through the ceanothus and sagebrush. The trail is a bit steeper here. Continue into the oaks and eucalyptus then down the steep hill on the right and back to the gate.
The trail is mostly hard pack soil with sand over the top, though the way occasionally turns to asphalt as a result of old oil production in the area.
