From the main parking lot, head towards the lake and turn right on the obvious trail. Enjoy the water birds that hang out at the lakeshore.

After starting just above the level of the lake, you rise to a commanding view of the lake. At about a mile in, you pass the Mt. Woodson Trail. Continue north along the lakeshore and after another third of a mile you come parallel to the dam.

The trail drops below the dam from here and enters a live oak forest. Pass an access road and rise back up the hill. An extra loop heads off right, but continue along until you are soon back where you started.
