Overview
This great route combines three of the great trails at Shawnee Lookout Park. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to pass near the Ohio River, see an old military fort, and travel through the forested part of the park.
Description
The trailheads for each individual trail are all well marked and easy to find. The westernmost trail, the
Miami Fort Trail, requires some road travel to access.
You'll start out your rolling journey on the
Blue Jacket Trail. This trail is roughly lollipop shaped, and you can tour the loop at the end in either direction. From there, you'll head to the
Little Turtle Trail. This trail lies closest to the Ohio River, though the thick vegetation will make it difficult to see the water.
The
Miami Fort Trail and the
Miami Fort Trail Extension have the best view of the Ohio River, so take your time along this section. Keep an eye out on these loops as some Native American artifacts and the old fort structure remains.
