From trailhead at MacDonald staging area, the trail starts as a gentle climb then gets progressively steeper until it levels out at the top approx. 1 mi along. There is a great view of the East Bay watershed and Mt. Diablo from the top. The trail continues along ridge, offering more views of the valley south towards Lake Cabot. After a short while, the trail then drops to the Bort Meadow Group camp and parking area.
