The access road is closed in winter. Part of the road is dirt and/or gravel and is somewhat washboardish.
Runner Notes
This route may be too steep for trail running. If attempting to run, use extreme caution as the soil and gravel on the trail is often very loose and the steep slope of the trail will make injuries likely.
Description
I happened upon this trail somewhat by accident, so my original route went from the summit back to the parking lot. If starting from the parking lot as mapped, take the trailhead to the right and the trail proceeds through dense forest at a very steep slope.
Once up on the ridge, runners will pass through a beautiful alpine meadow filled with wildflowers and incredible views of three valleys: Tooele Valley, Salt Lake Valley, and Utah Valley. Continuing up the trail, as you approach the forested first summit, the trail splits with the main trail continuing on to the right, bypassing the first summit to proceed to the second summit.
The trail as shown here rises sharply to the left and culminates in a summit with several cell towers and a utility building. From this vantage point, expansive views of the three valleys will make the steep climb worth it.
Flora & Fauna
The forest is mostly evergreens, and the trees have grown very dense. In the meadow, wildflowers include Bluebells, Sego Lilies, and
Indian Paintbrush. Squirrels and chipmunks common.
