Runner Notes

The track can be muddy in winter, soft in the summer, or boggy and pond-y after a heavy rain. Portions of the track move through grown, native bush so a headlamp may be helpful at dawn and dusk. Overall, this is a good, technical trail with steps and steeps to challenge you while remaining very runnable.

Description

The track is shared use for pedestrians and cyclists headed in both directions, but may be signposted as exclusively for mountain bikes at the upper entry, which is incorrect. Several MOUNTAIN BIKE ONLY tracks branch off along the way, so you'll need to stick to the main route, which is multi-use.

There are several intersections but keeping left (east) will keep you on the main track, which eventually emerges at the top end of the Tikitapu (Blue Lake) Reserve. Taking the right turns that are NOT marked as exclusive mountain bike tracks should reach the Tikitapu (Blue Lake) Circuit Track close to the lake edge. If you reach a sign marking the Blue Lake mountain bike track you need to double back 20m or so before taking the narrower track down to the circuit track.

This route travels through fairly dense but fairly young native bush. Watch out for trees falling after or during heavy rain.

Flora & Fauna

Dense, young, native bush will accompany your journey.
