Description
Trail D starts at the top of W. Canfield Butte. This difficult trail follows ridge lines crossing FS roads including the top of E. Canfield Butte.
From the communication towers at the top of W. Canfield Butte (end of FS Road #1562) head east following the sweet singletrack back to the FS Road #1562, to the Hayden Lake viewpoint. Exit this viewpoint to the southeast, back onto singletrack. Once you reach the FS Rd. #1562 again (about 3/4 mile - this junction is called The Island where
Trail 6, 7, D and FS #1562 intersect) stay to the left back onto Trail D.
You are now climbing again to the top of E. Canfield Butte. After reaching the summit continue east to Stacel saddle, crossing FS Rd. #1562 to continue onto D.
Please note: The Canfield trail system will have some posted maps for reference. Make sure you stay on Trail D all the way to Dry Gulch Saddle. At Dry Gulch Saddle (intersection of FS#1562, D, Trail 11, and FS #1562A. Continue onto Trail D headed east up onto the ridge line again.
You can expect some VERY technical trail along this route. There are lots of rocks, steep climbs, and descents.
