Overview

Hop on the Robiei Trail for a superlative experience amidst towering metamorphic peaks, pristine glacial lakes, and one of the most notable glaciers in the alps: the Basòdino Glacier.

On route, expect to see a host of alpine wildlife while traveling on the trail's smooth, well-maintained surface.

Need to Know

The Capanna Basòdino serves wonderful regional fare and cold drinks, so bring cash along with you if you're interested in treating yourself after the run.

Runner Notes

The sublime scenery and exceptional trail surface without a doubt make this one of the best trail runs in the area.

Description

Starting at the upper cable car station, the trail follows a broad path as it twists and turns near the lakeshore to a fork. At the junction, take the left fork and follow the path as it climbs moderately to its end, where it transitions into singletrack.

Continuing on singletrack, the trail traverses the lakeshore clockwise through beautiful alpine flora and glimmering crystalline bedrock to the southeastern corner. While on this leg of the journey, be sure to take a break, and appreciate the stunning turquoise waters of the Lago di Robiei, fed by the equally, if not more impressive, ribbons of ice cascading down the sculpted slopes of Basòdino Peak from its namesake glacier.

From here, the trail turns southeast as it begins a steady climb, switchbacking its way up and over a broad saddle to Bavona Creek on the opposite side. Follow the creek as it descends gently to the Capanna Basòdino, a rustic mountain hideaway providing lodging for serious mountaineers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.

After enjoying the Capanna Basòdino, finish your journey by regaining the broad path from before, and following it back to the cable car station.

Flora & Fauna

This area houses a host of alpine fauna, including alpine marmots, alpine ibex, and chamois.
