Runner Notes
Shaded though steep in parts, this can be part of an excellent and adventurous trail run.
Description
Visitors who want to admire the views from the top of Wolf Rock without having to climb the strenuous
Wolf Rock Trail can look to the milder Blackjack Ridge Trail. Though these two trails end in the same place, the experience of being on trail is incredibly different.
Like the
Wolf Rock Trail, this route provides runners with ample opportunities to admire the changing forest around them. The lower portions are made up of predominantly pine forests, though more and more hardwoods can be seen as the trail climbs to the summit of Wolf Rock. The route is heavily wooded, making it pleasantly shaded in the hot summer months. Be sure to come back in the winter, as there are great views of Stone Mountain to be had from the trail when the leaves are down.
If you're feeling brave, return to your vehicle via the
Wolf Rock Trail, otherwise, retrace your steps and return via the
Stone Mountain Loop Trail.
Flora & Fauna
You'll see plenty of wildlife in the area, as the pine and hardwood forests are home to many deer, squirrel, and bird species.
