Description

The trail can be accessed by following the Clouds Rest Trail from Skyline Boulevard for roughly .4 miles, until the Clouds Rest Trail breaks off to the left while the Meadow Trail continues straight ahead. The trail climbs gently along a rail fence as it departs the Clouds Rest Trail. The trail levels out for a little bit before it descends a steep hill that is slightly eroded due to heavy mountain bike use.

Around .25 miles the trail turns to the left and emerges from the woods into an area that contains more shrubs and young trees. The trail is more exposed through this area, so make sure you have your hat or sunscreen if running in the middle of the day. Part of the trail has been eroded in various areas through here due to either weather or due to mountain bike usage.

The trail narrows and re-enters the woods around .45 mile, where it descends more steeply toward the Alpine Road Trail. Hugging the hillside, the trail finally reaches the Alpine Road Trail just past .6 miles. From here, if you turn to the right, you can follow the trail up to Paige Mill Road. If you turn to the left, you can follow the Alpine Road Trail down to where the Clouds Rest Trail breaks off to the left and follow that back up the hills to your car. Or, if you don't have time to explore more, turn around and follow the path back up to your car.

Flora & Fauna

Deer, coyote, rabbits, hawks, and turkey vultures can be seen in the open areas of the preserve. The trail goes through the woods, providing the chance to see oak trees and various other plants common in oak forests.
