The Snowgrass, Goat Lake, and Old Snowy areas are the most crowded areas in the Goat Rocks Wilderness. Expect parking lots and camp spots to fill early even on the weekdays. Help preserve the fragile meadows and Leave No Trace by following
Wilderness Regulations.
Description
The Goat Ridge Trail heads north from the Berry Patch Trailhead. The route immediately ascends the southeast side of Goat Ridge through conifer forest with sporadic views south to Mt. Adams. After a little over a mile and ~900 ft of elevation gain, the Goat Ridge Lookout Trail leaves the main trail to the west. This is where many runners will leave the trail to take in views from Goat Ridge Lookout.
Continue climbing Goat Ridge on the main trail. The trail crosses a saddle then slightly descends, passing the junction with
Jordan Creek Trail. The trail passes through flowering meadows and scree fields as it slowly ascends towards
Jordan Creek Basin. The trail can be exposed and loose along this section, so be wary.
At a little over 3.5 miles from the trailhead, you'll enter the flower-filled
Jordan Creek Basin. There are a couple camps in the trees that are popular among backpackers. The trail continues to climb from
Jordan Creek Basin to the ridge where it ends at the junction with the Lily Basin Trail.
