Overview

This route uses a section of the Palmetto Trail (Swamp Fox Passage) with easy parking, easy running, and beautiful low country scenery. The section after crossing North Hampton Rd. has Carolina bays and some slight elevation gain.

Runner Notes

Not the most well-marked trail.
Bring heavy duty bug spray as mosquitos and ticks are heavy a lot of the year.
No potable water along the trail.

Description

General Info:
Start from the primitive campground on Halfway Creek Rd (near the intersection with Steed Creek Rd). From the campground, head right on the Palmetto Trail. You'll be placed back on Halfway Creek Rd at around mile three, there is another parking area here which is rarely busy.

Cross the road and hop back onto the trail. You should see a campsite about 3/4 of a mile in. After the long straightaway, turn left and follow the trail to a gravel (currently washed away) road. Head right for 100m or so and the trail will pick up on the left.

Additional Notes:
Due to the nature of the area, some parts of the trail, especially the further you get in, can become pretty water-logged after a rain. Also, due to the lack of use on these trails, spider webs and maintenance issues can make the run a little more tedious/adventuresome than other routes in the area. Due to hunting Monday-Saturday, the best running here is on Sunday.
