Description

The Shackleford Point Trail is a one-way trail that connects between the Peavine Falls Trailhead and parking area and the North Trailhead and parking area. The trail roughly parallels parts of the South Rim Trail (Blue Trail) and has junctions with the Red Road and Foothills Trail (Yellow Trail), giving you the option to connect to other trail in the park if you want to make a loop or longer outing.

When running from east to west, the trail starts with a short 0.5 mile descent before you start the long, steady climb up to Shackleford Point. At 1,260 feet in elevation, this is the highest point in the park. Though you won't have panoramic views, you can get a decent glimpse of the rolling, tree-covered hills which are particularly pretty in the fall.

From Shackelford Point, the trail starts a much more noticeably descent toward the North Trailhead. There are a couple steeper sections as the trail turns north and crosses the Foothills Trail (Yellow Trail) before turning northeast to end at the North Trailhead.
