Description
The Cascade Trail is a 1.0 mile trail that will take you from the bottom of the Poor Mountain Natural Preserve almost back up to the top of the preserve just off Route 694 or 12 O'clock Knob Rd. The Cascade Trail covers a series of switchbacks as it rises about 640 feet from its lowest point back up to the point where it connects with the
Piratebush Loop Trail.
Poor Mountain Natural Area Preserve covers 925 acres and contains a globally rare shrub called Piratebush.
If you pay attention, you may be able to find the shrub along parts of the trail.
The VA DCR fact sheet for the Preserve is available here and includes details on the flora in the preserve, natural history and directions to the small parking area at the trailhead.
