Overview
This run is a modified loop that combines
Loggers Trail,
Ivy Hill Trail, and
Lake Trail. Along the loop, enjoy great views and a good bit of exercise. In summertime, the park offers an art and wine festival, so you can pencil in your run for the morning and enjoy the wine festival in the afternoon.
Need to Know
There are several stream crossings, but water levels are normally low. As such, waterproof footwear is generally not needed.
Colored arrow markers were installed on the trails so the
Red Trail, Tan Trail,
Purple Trail, etc. is what we are calling the trails now. I am a trail guide and council member. We have plans for improvements to many of the trails with Austin Steo with Trails Conservancy.
Hikers have expressed their interests in having descriptions of the trails, length, difficulty and installing railings on the
Orange Trail above the lake. I have asked if Justin can help with this so we can post on our website and have printed trail descriptions in the nature center for hikers to review before heading out into the park.
Description
Start from the parking lot and run toward the Nature Center, then cross the bridge and turn right onto the red-blazed
Loggers Trail. Turn right at the following T-intersection. In mid-July, keep your eyes peeled for a bunch of wild red berries growing just a few feet from the intersection. In less than a quarter mile, you'll cross a path over a gas pipeline to find the
Shortcut Trail.
Turn right onto the white-blazed
Shortcut Trail. After only a few minutes, the trail converges with the yellow-blazed
Ivy Hill Trail.
Follow the
Ivy Hill Trail for less than a quarter mile before crossing another pipeline path and descending the hill to hit a junction with the
S. James Campbell Trail. Take a left and run up to the hill to see a small pond, take a water/snack break, and enjoy the pleasant view.
When you're ready to continue on, head back on the trail to the junction and take a left onto the
S. James Campbell Trail. This yellow-blazed trail will cross Baisman Run four times as it ascends a hill for less than a mile or so.
After eventually crossing another pipeline path, bear right onto the
Loggers Trail at the following junction. The old ski slope will be on your right, which affords beautiful views of the Hunt Valley.
Now descending a hill, continue running along the Logger Trail to cross another pipeline path and reach a large junction.
At the junction, look for the orange-blazed
Lake Trail. Follow the orange-blazed trail to cross a bridge and head uphill, with the lake on your right side, to end near the parking lot where you started.
