Overview
Though longer in distance, this loop run takes advantage of the gradual grades of industrial transportation routes used by the former landowner, Central Pennsylvania Lumber Co., making it easier to cover longer distances at a quicker pace. The entire loop can be done anywhere from a 6-hour (12 min/mile) run to a 3-day backpack.
This is a hiking-only trail, which visits numerous scenic landmarks such as Rock Run and views over the Loyalsock area, McIntyre Wild Area, and Pleasant Stream.
Need to Know
Look out for rattlesnakes around rocky outcroppings like Sullivan Mountain. Sections of trail can be muddy especially after rainfall or during wetter months. Access to water and campsites is fairly easy.
The route from Ellenton is the only access in the winter, as all other roads are usually blocked by snow.
Runner Notes
Great training loop for ultramarathons or longer distances.
Description
This orange-blazed trail is most commonly accessed from the ghost-town, Masten. There is parking near the stop sign. The trailheads are in either direction along Pleasant Stream Road. Use the
Trail Run Project mobile app to navigate on trail even without service.
Runners should expect a handful of sustained elevation changes though they are mostly gradual. The primary water sources along the trail are Rock Run, Pleasant Stream, and Wallis Run as well as a few feeder streams.
Flora & Fauna
Poison ivy, stinging nettles, bears, rattlesnakes.
