Description
This is a fantastic wilderness style trail that is worth running in either direction with a shuttle or as an out-n-back (consider an overnight). It is possible to do a loop but it requires a LONG and dusty dirt road and lots of extra climbing.
Starting from the east end Reservation Divide trailhead, the trail starts out with a well-used trail to Ch-Paa-Qn (formerly Squaw) Peak. There are some steep climbs in here, but all are short. After a bit of smooth trail, there are some rocky sections as the trail contours towards the peak. There is a trail sign at the 4-way intersection; take a right for a quick run to the summit (and the best views) if you like. However, the Reservation Divide Trail goes straight through the intersection.
The trail gets way more remote past the intersection and is a little more rugged. It contours for the most part until it descends down to a large saddle about and views of the Missions to the east. After more contouring and passing through an old burn area, the trail descends a long and rocky hill to the Kennedy Creek trailhead.
