Runner Notes
This road is great for trail running as there's no cars and only the occasional bus carrying Ausable Club lake goers.
Description
This section of Lake Road is closed to all vehicle use with the exception of a large yellow school bus owned and operated by the Ausable Club and available to club members only. It's a little disheartening when you are running the 3 plus miles out and a bus, completely empty, passes you by leaving you with a face full of dust. Just before the gate to the road, there is an information kiosk that is usually garrisoned by an Ausable Club staff member.
Pass through the gate and follow the road until the end. Along the way, the trail travels along the East Branch of the Ausable River. There is access to several High Peaks trails on both sides of the road that are well marked with easy-to-see signage. The road ends at the Lower Ausable Lake. There is a beach at the lake, but again, access is only for Ausable Club members.
Flora & Fauna
Visit this area in the autumn to see it erupt in fiery fall color.
