Description

From the north east side of Ice Lake, follow any of a handful of braided paths. Eventually these coalesce into a well-worn, initially very steep trail up the hillside. Contour around the mountain and over some tricky slide paths to a couple of rocky outcrops. These outcrops are great viewpoints back across at Ice Lake and the surrounding 13ers. Gain the saddle and cross some flat ground. You soon reach the southern shore of emerald colored Island Lake, so named for the small rocky island in the middle. The setting is just great with high alpine peaks surrounding the bowl. There are multiple spots for a picnic or photos.
