Runner Notes
Bikes common on this trail, and in the area in general. Hikers and runners: keep that head on a swivel!
This trail is shown as an out-and-back, but also can be made into a loop by continuing on adjacent old mining two-track.
Description
The Y-11 Trail parallels County Road Y-11 also known as the River Road between Uravan on Hwy 141 and Bedrock in the Paradox Valley. The Y-11 starts directly west of the old iron bridge (approximately 38.385033, -108.759166) downstream from the reclaimed mill town of Uravan along Hwy 141.
The trail can be seen climbing along the south edge of a large open area. Follow CR Y-11 for less than a quarter mile and look for a small gravel pit which will lead you up to the trail. It will eventually begin a long gradual ascent up a sometimes narrow, rocky and technically challenging bench. Watch out for exposed cliffs as the trail nears the edge.
After about 2.5 miles the trail continues up a wide, flat section coming to the edge of the Saucer Basin drainage at mile 3.5. Here users can turn back to make this a great out and back run. To make a loop out of it continue down on the trail into the drainage where it will meet the rough two track coming up from CR Y-11.
NOTE: There are no restroom or trash facilities. Please pack in and out your waste, your dog's waste, and any trash you find. Don't forget: please stay on trail to avoid damaging the fragile cryptobiotic soil.
