Description
The Moraine Nature Preserve is easy to access and has no entrance fee. There is ample parking in the gravel parking lot. The trail itself is a nice departure for the region. Unlike many other regional trails that are either flat or have a sandy running surface, this trail is never flat and has a hard-packed and rocky surface.
The preserve is part of the Valparaiso Moraine, which was formed by the last ice age. The nature preserve contains a combination of rolling ridges, steep hills, and ponds. The trail is surrounded by a beech-maple forest. There are excellent wildflowers in the spring and migrational birding in the spring and fall.
