Description
From the kiosk near the entrance to the parking area, take the
Blue Trail along a rocky path for a very short distance. Soon, the trail splits, and you'll want to follow the orange blaze. Quickly, the trail changes from gentle grades to a steep and rocky incline.
After sweating your way to the summit, enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding hills, valleys, and verdant farmlands. Point Mountain is one of the highest elevations in the county, at 935 feet above sea level. When you've gotten your fill of the view, continue along the forested ridge path to gently descend and cross a stream drainage.
Shortly after the drainage, the
Orange Trail skirts gorgeous farmland (providing access to the
Orange Trail - North trail along the fields) before reaching a junction with the
Blue Trail at an information post.
From the junction with the
Orange Trail, the
Blue Trail leaves the fields to make a westerly journey through wild, fairly unmaintained country rife with tall grass, spiky bushes, and thickets. After fighting the undergrowth for a few minutes, the trail finally pops through the dense forest to reach the Musconetcong River. From the river, enjoy gorgeous views along this peaceful, majestic waterway as you reap your reward.
Upon reaching the junction with Point Mountain Road, turn left (south) to follow the road a short ways to reach the parking lot and the end of the run.
