Description
The Murky Marsh starts off smooth and straight for almost a mile. Right at the end, there is a brown trail marker with a yellow blaze on it. It's a warning marker that is letting you know that you are 100 feet from a tight, hairpin (this is more useful for the mountain bikers who share the trail).
Although this is a heavily forested area, it's really not marshy and not too murky. In the late evenings, it does get dark and in the rain it does get muddy. The lower section is full of roots, troughs, turns, rocks and trees. It's a very fun area where the terrain changes rapidly.
At the switchback, you start to pay for the nice long downhill and the climb begins. It's never too steep but it stays with you for a bit. Once you cross the second wooden bridge, you'll know the steepest part and the end are (
Rolling Ridge) in sight. From this point, instead of heading home, I often turn left and hit
Pogo's Place.
