Description

Lower Pine is the main access route to the easternmost reaches of the Cedro area. It can be used to access Gear Grinder or Pinon, and ultimately Bear Scat Trail which is the main route south.

To reach the trailhead, turn off of Old Rt 66 east of Tijeras and onto Bartolo Baca Rd. After a short distance, bear right onto Kennedy Lane aka Liebre Lane. This connects to FR 462 and the trailhead.

The first hill has a series of bedrock steps. Sections of the trail run through an arroyo, which provides new rocks and ruts after each heavy rain.

The trail continues past Gear Grinder and Pinon to a second trailhead on a dirt road to the east.
