Description
Old Finley Road is an old dirt road that starts at the southern border of Morgan Territory Regional Preserve and ascends to the Highland Ridge in Mount Diablo State Park. Park somewhere alongside Finley Road and follow the paved road north. Pass the big wooden gate to the left and continue through the ranch. Stay on the road, this is private property. Old Finley Road turns left where the paved road turns right. Pass another gate soon and follow the dirt road through the forest.
The road will gently ascend to the Highland Ridge for roughly 2.5 miles. It initially parallels Tassajara Creek which it crosses at 0.7 miles. Steep
Sulfur Springs Trail branches off on the right at 1.0 mile. At 1.2 miles, keep right to stay on Old Finley Road as Riggs Canyon Road forks to the left. The final ascent to the ridge is slightly steeper and more exposed. At the top of the ridge,
Highland Ridge Trail joins from the right and immediately leaves to the left. Take a moment at the junction to take in the view north and south. Old Finley Road now turns right and descends again, gently at first, but more steeply after a quarter mile until you reach Morgan Territory Road.
