Dogs Off-leash
Description
Head east from the intersection with the
Big Bush Track and
Rocky Horror Track to run through a mossy, sometimes damp track to open clearings on the top of the ridge. After the clearings, the trail turns south into manukas then beech forest. The trail is narrow with roots and rocks to navigate. Boggy areas have had matting laid and there are two small streams to cross that have culverts.
You'll have to navigate some tight and narrows sections, as the trail winds down through a couple of clearings to emerge on a rock outcrop where views of Lake Rotoiti and the skating pond campground are obtained.
The last 1,312 ft (400m) after the lookout descends an old morraine with steep, tight, rocky corners, and narrow sidles before emerging on Teetotal Flat at the top of
Skating Pond Loop's lollipop stalk.
