This is a multi-use trail, so be courteous to other users.
Description
This trail is built along a ridge that gently slopes down to the river 100 feet below. From the northern parking lot, take the connector south out of the lot to reach this trail; turn left to take the Roadrunner Trail heading east. The trail generally descends along the ridge, but the high clay soils of this trail turn to very sticky mud after a rain, and some sections of trail are highly eroded and gullied out making the trail base uneven. This one is a little more rugged than others in the park.
This ridge on which the Roadrunner Trail and the
Yaupon Trail traverse was part of an ancient oyster reef that varied from 3-14 feet thick, so you can often see shells along this route.
Flora & Fauna
Javelina like the steep slopes along this trail. Lots of great wildlife tracks can be seen as well.
