Overview

This run starts off on Split Rock Road and travels through an old growth forest to a historic abandoned rail bed. Continue the loop ascending to Hawks Watch view point which is an exposed rock outcropping. To complete the loop using a section of the Four Birds Trail return the Wildcat Ridge Trail via the Beaver Pond Trail.

Description

The Wildcat Ridge Trail starts just after crossing over Splitrock Dam. Watch on the left for a gravel pullout (no parking permitted). The trail is marked with yellow blazes. Follow the trail uphill for a short distance, then the trail descends some tight switchbacks to a well-defined trail.

The trail exits onto Hibernia Road. Turn left for a short distance on the road. The trail re-enters the forest on the left. The trail now follows an abandoned railbed while paralleling Hibernia Road. Wildcat Ridge Trail crosses Hibernia Road two more time very close to each other. The trail ends at the end of Hibernia Road and a small parking area.

Turn left on an old forest road which is now known as the Flyway Spur Trail (Orange blazes) and after a short distance, turn right into the forest onto the Hibernia Brook Trail. The trail ascends until you reach the Four Birds Trail. Cross over the Four Birds Trail for a short distance to the viewpoint known as "Hawks Watch." Return back to the junction with the Four Birds Trail and turn left. The trail is mostly downhill at first until you cross a rocky section and you begin to ascend. Watch on the left for a sign directing you onto the Beaver Pond Trail.

Turn left on Beaver Pond Trail for 0.5 miles, passing Beaver Pond. The trail end back on the Wildcat Ridge Trail. Turn right and return the way you came.
