T02 takes runners to beautiful beaches, past the lovely cascading falls of Feiticeira Waterfall, through mangrove swamps, and ends at the natural pools where you can enjoy a refreshing dip followed by a stop at a local restaurant.
However, the trail is a bit challenging, and runners should be prepared for a tough climb that will require a moderate level of fitness. No matter which direction you are running the trail, you'll encounter a long uphill with a few steep sections followed by a downhill to reward you for your efforts.
If you are making the side trip to
Cachoeira da Feiticeira, know that during peak season, the area can get quite busy. However, if you are lucky enough to visit during the off season, you have a good chance of having the waterfall all to yourself.
Note that due to the presence of animals, the creeks and water along the route are not drinkable. Be sure to bring plenty of water. At the beaches, you can find bars and restaurants along the way.
From the aqueduct to the Feiticeira Waterfall it is approximately 3.6km, most of which are uphill. From the Aqueduct, the trail starts uphill gently. After a bamboo forest on the right, there is a stone ramp where a stream descends, which you'll cross later. After crossing the bridge, the trail will continue to climb through the woods, with the ground becoming increasingly bumpy and sloping. From time to time, through the branches, you'll see the
Pico do Papagaio on your left.
About 30 mins after you left the aqueduct, the trail reaches the top of the hill. From there, the trail will descend with many zigzags. When passing by bamboo to the right (Bambu-açu), the gradient of the descent decreases. After passing on stones, where at certain times a small brook can exist, you'll come to a bifurcation to the left. This trail (in steps) gives access to the Feiticeira Waterfall. If this is not your destination, continue down the main trail until you reach the next fork on the left.
