Need to Know
There is no real parking area. The trailhead is at the dead end of Stanton Ave. with plenty of on-street parking.
Description
Start out at the trailhead on right side of Stanton Ave. Follow the trail to the creek. To the left is a path to a small "beach" (swimming is not recommended). The old "loop" used to continue to the left but is now overgrown.
The main trail continues to the right. It is an out-and-back trail. The blazes are fairly obvious so it is difficult to get lost. The trail generally follows Crosswicks Creek, although it is frequently out of sight. You cross one stream bed that is sandy and dry the majority of the time. Note that nearer to Crosswicks Creek, this stream bed is flooded.
After crossing the stream bed, the trail splits. Left is a dead-end spur trail overlooking the creek. The main trail continues onto the right from the split. There are offshoots to the main trail, but as long as you keep your orientation to the main creek (left outbound, right inbound) you can't get too lost. The trail ends at Orchard Ave, then back you go!
There are other trails in the extensive Abbots Marshland, of which this is a part. Worth checking out!
Flora & Fauna
Large deciduous trees predominate. Ferns in the undergrowth. Lots of gnats. Did not see much wildlife, but I'm sure there are deer. We did see a cute little turtle!
