Overview
Take the well-used
Pine Meadow Trail to
Seven Hills Trail and then up Diamond Mountain. It's a fairly difficult scramble, not for amateurs at all. The effort is well worth it as you get many amazing overlooks of the surrounding hills, Sebago Lake and Pine Meadow Lake. This is not a run for someone just wanting an easy stroll to the lake. The scrambles up Diamond Mountain are very steep in places and not for anyone afraid of heights.
Need to Know
Bring plenty of water, once on the top of Diamond Mountain there is no water at all.
Runner Notes
You can run on most of this route except the scrambles. Coming down off Diamond is pretty steep and a good risk for slips.
Description
Start at Reeves Meadow info center. Be advised on weekends it can get very crowded, and the parking lot fills up fast. You can park on the side of the road, but at times you'll need to run 0.25 mile or more to get to the trailhead.
Take
Pine Meadow Trail, which can also be very crowded on weekends with some very noisy runners. Once you get on
Seven Hills Trail, it gets significantly less crowded and noisy. In less than a few tenths of a mile, you'll start up Diamond Mountain, a nice steep trail at first then a really good scramble to the top.
Make your way across the ridge for the views and a few easier descents. You can easily make it to Pine Meadow Lake descending Diamond Mountain via
Pine Meadow Trail—it's totally worth the trip to cool your feet off in the lake!
Flora & Fauna
Plenty of birds, a snake or two, and maybe even a bear. Blueberry bushes are all over and a rare blackberry bush here and there.
