Need to Know

The trailhead is along NM 518 about 2.1 miles southeast of the Sipapu Ski Area. Turn right onto Forest Road 708 then another right at a fork in the road, there's a sign for the Agua Piedra Tr. No.19A and Indian Lakes Tr. No.19C to the left and Cordova Canyon Tr. No.17 to the right.

The Aqua Piedra Campground has several pay-to-camp sites and a reservation is required.

Description

While technically an old doubletrack road, much of the trail is overgrown and has singletrack characteristics where it's been worn in. It starts out climbing steeply into the forest through Cordova Canyon, crosses into a side canyon, and crests a ridge before dropping into Comales Canyon. After another steep climb across a ridge, the trail levels out and ends at a junction with the Comales Trail #22.

The descent has a lot of embedded rocks and roots, getting slightly smoother near the bottom.
