Need to Know

Sunscreen is a must. Poison oak is a given but has been kept off of the trail for the most part.

Some portions towards the end of the trail are slippery (leaves + slope + loose small rocks). Many low hanging branches; watch your head.

Description

This trail appears to be infrequently traveled and not regularly maintained. About 90% of the trail is distinct and easy to follow while short portions will have you searching the next 20 feet for the trail continuation. This trail is very unique in its natural surroundings. The trail starts in full sun with grassy fields, passes through a grove of old oak trees followed by a forest of beautiful deep red and grey manzanita trees and finally entering into a pine forest. Unique rock formations are scattered along the length of the trail.

This trail requires a lengthy run just to reach the start and no water is available once on the trails; so carry extra water.

Oats Peak Trail and Valencia Peak Trail are the shortest connectors to this run (shortest but about 3.5 mi long with significant elevation change).
