Need to Know
Breakneck Bridge is no joke. Take your time crossing.
Runner Notes
If you really want to. This is a wilderness trail and is maintained as such.
Description
You must first traverse 0.8 miles of
South Fork Citico Creek Trail #105 to access the trailhead located in the middle of an old logging camp. Turn left at the unsigned but obvious trailhead and carefully make your way across Breakneck Bridge. The lower section of the trail is easygoing with eight major stream crossings, the first six of which can be bypassed using a series of trails found along the right side before the 1st, 3rd and 5th crossing.
There are multiple campsites along the way for the first 2.5 miles. At mile 3, the trail switchbacks up away from the stream to join the old railroad bed above. Cables and pieces of old rail can be found all through this section past where the creek forks. As you work your way up, the stream grows smaller until it is small enough to become the trail for several stretches before reaching the intersection with
Cold Spring Gap Trail #149 around 4.5 miles. From there, it is roughly another 0.75 miles to Cherry Log Gap and
Fodderstack Horse Trail #95.
Flora & Fauna
Squirrels, bear, and boars.
