The trails are plentiful, but the water is not; if you're planning a long, rambling sort of day, be sure to be adequately provisioned.

This trail is extremely rocky in some spots, extremely narrow and overgrown in others, and some sections may be unexpectedly deep muck. In other words, it's an absolutely awesome trail run, but it will punish the underprepared.

This trail has a few different hop-on points, but the true "trailhead" is at the horse campground along Vineyard Road. From the south side of the campground, the trail ducks into the woods for a brief minute before crossing the road and heading into the timber on the east side.

From there, it travels south along winding singletrack through the woods right at the edge of a large restored prairie.

After a few tenths of mile, the trail comes to a junction with a sign pointing back towards the barn. Continue straight to stay on the Yellow Trail.

Continue bearing left at several more junctions until you come to another large prairie; the Yellow Trail wraps around the edge of this prairie before beginning a steep, steady, rocky climb. Several more junctions are just begging you to get lost, which is okay if you brought enough water and snacks. If you want to stay on the Yellow Trail, avoid sharp turns; many other trails are signed, but more than a couple are not.

But as long as you continue climbing, you'll eventually come to the White Trail. Turn back the way you came, or take a chance and turn left down the White Trail—it will eventually bring you back to familiar territory.

The prairie that this trail wraps around is absolutely stunning in late summer; Partridge Pea, Coneflower, and Prairie Smoke might a remarkable display.

Deer are thick throughout La Riviere, as are horses, so watch your step!
